Whether you’re preparing to compete in any number of OCR races this year, be it Spartan, Tough Mudder, Warrior Dash or Battlefrog, one of the things you will use to complete any number of obstacles is your hands. One of the best things I learned early on in these races was that the right pair of gloves can make a world of difference when you are climbing ropes, traversing rigs, or even keeping your fingers warm on a cold day.
When training for Spartan Race, or any of the other OCR races each year, you will want to make sure you practice with a good pair of gloves. Personally, I have two pair I race with — a fingerless pair I use in warm or dry events, and a heavy duty pair I use when temps drop below 40 degrees.
I’ve tried many different pair of gloves, and in talking to other racers during various events, I’ve learned that there are some common gloves that people gravitate toward for OCR races. No matter what OCR event you are getting ready for, get a pair of the gloves below to protect your hands and give yourself the best chance to complete each obstacle. Below are the very best gloves for Spartan Race, or any OCR race you enter this year!
These are the gloves I prefer when the weather is nice. I like that they are fingerless, as it is more comfortable and I can leave them on while still doing some of the obstacles you’d prefer to do without gloves (traverse wall, spear throw, etc.). They are inexpensive, but have great grip on metal, protect your palms from splintered wood, and dry quickly when wet. Price:
These gloves perform better when it’s wet out, and can be a little slippery in dry conditions. The polyester top do a decent job at drainage, but you should probably order on the smaller size to prevent as much water from getting in as possible, as well as preventing excess material from causing you to lose grip. Designed for deep sea fisherman, this glove is great in cold weather because it is both waterproof, and has a good wrist guard that will keep a lot of water out. These gloves are warm, and will do a decent job at gripping obstacles in the cold. Price:
