Whether you are asking yourself “how do I train for my first Spartan Race,” or “how will improve on last season’s results,” there are many ways you can get a jump on your training so you’re ready to go.
GripSling Raw Training Straps
The GrpSling Straps have been our favorite grip training product this past year, and they make great additions to your off season training program. Attach just about anything to them and they make for great heavy carry training. String them together and you can practice rope climbs at the park. There are endless amounts of body weight exercises you can do that don’t even involve grip. Overall, a really great and innovative product.
Perfect Fitness Ab Carver Sport Roller
Everyone has a love/hate relationship with ab rollers. They will set your core on fire, but they work. OCR training means you have to get creative, like this workout Coach Pain did on his Instagram page. Of course, having a strong core is one of the best things you can do for yourself leading into a long OCR Season full of burpees and demanding obstacles. We recommend the Perfect Fitness Ab Carver.
Bosu Ball or Balance Disc
Choosing between a Bosu Ball or Balance Disc can be hard, because each provide benefits the other can’t do quite as well. Our preference is the Bosu Ball. Although not as portable, it does provide greater stability that will amplify your offseason workouts at home.
Pro-Grade Chin-Up Bar
In Spartan Race, Tough Mudder or Warrior Dash, you need to be able to pull your body weight up and over obstacles. One of the very best tools you can use to train to ensure your upper body strength is where it needs to be is a chin up bar. Work some chin ups or pull ups into your routine this winter and be ready for anything in the Spring!
PowerBlock Elite Dumbbells
If you are going to spend a decent amount of money on one thing, it should be free weights. Our preference is the PowerBlock Elite Dumbbells, since you can adjust weight up to 90 pounds. You can use these along with the GripSling for some killer grip workouts, or improve your overall strength with traditional lifts.
